Please note that the following list of trail riding areas in Alberta is provided as a service to off-highway vehicle users by the Alberta Off-Highway Vehicle Association and will be updated as additional information is received. The use of off-highway vehicles in any of the listed areas requires vehicle registration, valid insurance, lights and a muffler, an adequate muffler is particularly important if we are to continue to enjoy riding in these areas. Please forward any comments or suggestions to office@aohva.com. It is the responsibility of all off road riders to know if the trail they are on is open and/or designated for OHV use.
Road and Trail Closures
The Waiparous Creek Bridge Project (Ghost Public Land Use Zone, PLUZ) will be constructed in the summer of 2017. Recreational users should be aware of changes to this area, including road and recreational trail closures; effective May 10, 2017 – August 30, 2017.

Approx. 75km south of Hinton. Mountain Park is designated as an OHV staging area by the Alberta Forest Service. Numerous trails in the general area. Random camping is available.
Approx. 90km north west of Grande cache. Dead Horse Meadows camp site is designated as an OHV stagingarea by the Alberta Forest Service.

Approx. 70km north of Cochrane on highway 940. Fallen Timber camp site is designated as an OHV staging area by the Alberta Forest Service. Numerous trails in the general area, some of which are marked.
Approx. 20km south west of Nordegg. OHV use is permitted in the overflow area of Crecent Falls campsite, trails are accessible from this point.
Approx. 100km west of Rocky Mountain House. There are several camp sites in the area, eg Upper Shunda Creek which is 3 km north of Nordegg off Hwy 11, OHV staging, reservations 403 721 2333. Numerous trails in the general area. The Blackstone – Wapiabi land use zone is closed to OHV use.
